New XBox To Not Play Used Games?

Recommended Posts

The wires are humming about how the new Xbox 720 'will support Blu-ray, might not play used games' based on a report by Kotaku. That could be a bonus for publishers, but gamers are already complaining. Thoughts?

The 720 is going to use a Radeon 6000 card and have six times the video processing power of the 360.

I'll be wanting the new games designed to take advantage of that.

I don't have an issue with non backwards compatibility when the next generation of console comes out. Plenty of original Xbox games will not play on the 360.

And it's not like I'm throwing out my 360 just cause the 720 comes out. If I'm really concerned about going back 4 years to play "game 1" when "game sequel 5" is out, I can turn on the 360 that's sitting next to the 720.

New versions of games come out so fast. when I'm in the middle of playing Gears of War 3, I'm not too interested in playing Gears 1, and they are still on the same console.

Oops! You're right.

I read your link name, and not the article. My bad. :hehe:

Well. now that I have to disagree with. while I am totally all in for putting Gamestop out of business forever, this would mean that I can't even pass down a game to my kid...and that's wrong. It means that if I gave my kid GOW3 for Christmas, I can't even borrow it to try it out.

That's all wrong.

I'm just the messenger. I would like to see GameStop end in making large profits (almost 50%) from used game sales. The problem is publishers haven't fought properly. If they wanted, they could stop selling all games to the retailer from the get go. Until the publishers do something, I doubt GS will stop selling used games.

Which will soon be the case. As more and more goes digital and more and more development companies see how their own profit margins increase by cutting out some of the middle men like shipping companies, packaging, etc. the less prevalent these particular problems will be.

I mean there will still be costs. Hosting your own download distribution servers or paying a third party to do it will definitely eat at some of those profits, but I think the return on investment would still put companies ahead.

But yes, forbidding me to play my own game on more than one system is not very good business practice. We already have these issues on PC and it's not very well received. However, it's not hated enough to stop companies from doing it, sadly.

I'll consider the console IF

--- works with 104 full size keyboard AND NOT those found function-key type currently in the market...

--- Youtube interface is the same as in the web

--- BR drive doesn't require firmware update FOR EACH MOVIE that comes out.

--- Skype and apps are available for FREE

--- comes with either Internet Explorer/FireFox or Chrome browsers.... not some browser that can't get on the Internet without major hacking.

not sure about what you mean by the "found function" keyboards...

I like my Logitech G15 with macro buttons
