Clearing some cobwebs

Posted by Jsonedecker, Dec 31 2009, 02:23 PM

Wow, it's dusty in here!

I can't say updates will come more frequently, but here are a few things in the pipeline......

and....

You can see 2 character body styles wearing 2 different types of vests... Body Armor and a Tactical Vest. Each one had distinct advantages/disadvantages in game, like amount of gear that can be carried among other things. Some of the gear available is shown, but certainly isn't everything. Each kit item you wear represents an item you picked for your loadout. So your appearance in game is a direct representation of how you chose to load yourself up prior to the match.

Why is some stuff white? Simple... I haven't textured them yet! cool.gif I figured I could wait forever until all the art was complete and polished or start to show more things along the way. Of course, nothing shown is finished and subject to change at any time.

I will be trying to put a short animation video together soon as well.

EDIT: Okay, here is a short video showing a few motions.

GB Motion Example Movie

These was captured in real time in the game engine with me rotating the camera around the character as he moves. The gear is old placeholder pouches and not the newer stuff as seen in the images above.

Cheers!

Great work. The models look credible and the motions are fluid and lifelike. Thank you for the small update, it is truly appreciated.

 Nouty, Apr 7 2010, 04:29 AM

In the second pic the model has an empty pistol holster on his tigh, will the holster get removed if you don't pick a sidearm in the game? If so, what would happen if you were to pick one up off the ground later? Would you not be able to holster that weapon without a proper holster? Doesn't really matter to me what you do with it, just wondering about it.

 Jsonedecker, Apr 7 2010, 08:41 PM

You will always have a holster... it isn't a choice the player gets to make. There are a few reasons for doing this, andt he ability to pick up weapons and what to do with them is one of them.

 Nouty, Apr 8 2010, 06:53 AM

Thanks. Sounds a lot better than always having an empty holster with you in Arma2, even if you have a sidearm in your equipment tongue.gif

I suppose special forces never go on mission without the sidegun as it is the last resort weapon. It's like the Samurai who never go out without the short blade, even if they have to let go of the sword.
Does it mean the pistol will be a forced item and only the amount of pistol magazines are changeable?

 Jsonedecker, Apr 8 2010, 08:12 PM

Taking a pistol is a forced item, but nothing is stopping you from dropping it on the ground in game if you want. However, if you drop it, that doesn't open up an "inventory" slot to add another weapon, unless it's another pistol. Only a pistol can use the holster slot. For ammo, you get 2 mags for the pistol (the actual number is open to feedback) that sit on the holster pouches. That is a standard un changable thing. But, you can choose to carry more pistol mags in your available inventory slots. So the pistol and a couple mags are standard to all players (you can choose the pistol model though) and you can choose to equip more mags for it or not.

Are there gona be other locations for pistol holster? chest holster in a tactical vest for an example?

That is a possibility.

Awesome work. The load-out stuff sounds great, not that important to game-play, but a VERY nice touch none the less. The models and texture and the motion capture look really awesome as well. Looks like it will make for some very cool game-play.

Love the animation...I did notioce one issue...it looks like its minor...could be the setting used or whatever...a shadow jump at 00:57. Man those Side steps out look awesome at the end. Is the step back to cover the same animation for the step out in reverse...just it seems quicker to step back than step out?!

Lurving the work John @ All the Team ;-)
