i was going to post in the LCD monitor thread but there seems to be alot of issue's that dont really cross-over.

im looking at new tv's....

absolute minimum size 42"...46"+ preferably.im trying to stay below $1,500(which seems to keep me out of the 1080p zone).

anyone know whether 1080p on the 360 is better than 720p?arent the games "native" 720p?so is upconverting to 1080p worth it?

i plan on trading/selling my 360 for an Elite or one of the new premium's with HDMI.

my main question is in the contrast ratio's.relative to others in the same price range,Samsung seems to be alot better in this regard.are they playing games with how they define their contrast?ive seen some labeled as "dynamic contrast ratio"?

8ms an acceptable response time?would 5ms be noticably better than 8ms?...although the one ive seen with 5ms only had 1,000:1 contrast ratio(compared to others with 2x-8x that),which would be more important?

ive been trying to do my research, but as soon as i think i have a good idea of whats going on i come across something new that makes me wanna throw my hands up and get whatever's on sale at Wal-mart. <_<

any recommendations?aspects im missing?

the DLP's seem to have good contrast ratio's for the money......

I hope someone answers you. I'd like an education on some of this myself.

I have a Sharp 26" LCD HDTV and it has a pretty good picture. From what I have seen, Samsung has a good picture too. As I don't intend to get an Xbox 360, I haven't considered any of those features for my next widescreen. I know I do want a larger one for the living room.

Jerm vvarfare During my time researching PC LCD's I found out allot of miths and BS that many of the manufactures use and the BS jargon to boot. Now I know jack *MOD EDIT* about TV monitors and I wouldn't like to comment just in case there apple and oranges but one thing I would be asking is how they obtained there contrast ratio because anymore than 1000:1 and the figures are fudged in the PC world and it's a stab in the dark that it is in the TV world too so take that on board. Do your research and don't be in a hurry is all I can offer......

yeah,that had me curious....

ive seen two tv's that seem to be relatively the same as far as price, size, and features....but one claims a contrast ratio of 1000:1 or 1250:1 and another claiming up to 7000:1.

something smells fishy.

I have been trying to find the info I found on PC LCD's and it was so long ago I can't find it again but the very piece I want to show you and Cutter explained the contrast ratio in depth and explained how they performed the test and how they got the results. It also went on to explain how they fudged the results and bent the truth without litigation action being taken because it was a play with words.
