Any definite confirmation for a console release yet?

I have seen no mention about any console release. As with all their games it will be available for PC and Mac, but I wouldn't count on a console release.

EDIT----

Though here is some hope for the console gamers.

So it's been hinted at, but not confirmed.

There is official confirmation that they want to release it for the consoles. Whether it'll actually happen or not, I guess we'd know if they'd know..

Could some Diablo veteran(s) explain to me what is so interesting about this game? I never played the previous Diablo games, and it's a franchise that has been praised by so many, which triggers my interest. But when I look at gameplay videos it all looks very repetitive and seems like mouse-clicking your way though enemy hordes all the time. So I must be missing something, probably because I never played any previous titles. So what is this "thing" that make these Diablo games so great? What's the magic so to speak?

Really interested to hear about that :)

Honestly, in its most simplistic explaination; how you've described it is exactly what the game is all about.

The game is first and foremost a cooperative hack and slash RPG. You and your friends go into the giant world and battle hordes and hordes of (usually) undead enemies. Skill progression, itemization and character progression is what the Diablo series is all about. Crafting will be more involved this time around, but that falls under itemization.

It is nowhere near the most indepth RPG, but to me, it has always been one of the most enjoyable.

There's also another game similar to Diablo coming out called Tera which seems to be a little more indepth when it comes to combat. I just don't know how the rest of the game will be. Call me a fanboy, but Blizzard just has a certain way of making games that makes them polished out of the box and they never stop supporting them. They are one of the few companies that care about the quality of their product.

But here's some videos of Tera at Gametrailers.com if you want to check that out. It's what I call Diablo with more to it.

EDIT---

Tera is probably more like WoW than Diablo. I guess I have just been looking into it because it's another copp RPG which is what I have been craving lately.

Well, it's not just about how you go about killing monsters. But that's some of the equation. The other part is actually planning out your character picking skills and gear that you think will be most effective and then making good use of them in combat. Picking the wrong skills will put you at a serious disadvantage (especially in Diablo 2, less so in Diablo 3 where there are less "totally wrong" choices and wrong choices are easily fix-able anyway), but picking the perfect skills will still not work if you don't know how to use them correctly.

There's also a big difference between the difficulty levels. In normal difficulty anything works, really. When you get to nightmare, if you totally suck you probably won't move much further, but you also don't need to be incredibly good to proceed. In hell, you start needing  a well-polished build and decent items to get through (though with latest D2 versions, there exist some uber-rare items that trivialize the game and those items have been duplicated on an insane level). In D3 they promise giving us a true difficulty beyond normal, and especially in the new inferno difficulty, so I'm really expecting that, especially considering they have gotten much better at fighting off cheats/hacks/dupes/whatever in the last 10 years - If you look at WoW, it's practically cheat-free, with the only rampant cheating method being running bots to farm gold for you... While bot existence does suck, it's not nearly as game-breaking as other cheat methods.

Whilst there are 3D shotters that are just point n click & not a fully NORG 3D shooter.. they still have their place & some are very good at what they do. D3 is the same vain for RPG...theres a definite enjoyment of just  hacking your way thru tons of overwhelmiing hordes that make you rethink your strategy on how best to defeat them...recraft, change approach, item up....change spells etc.
Its the primal form of gaming at its best that makes the diablo series such a good game...a bit like still enjoying a good ol' arcade platformer..its old...but its primal & original & therfore holds yopur attention.

Have a look at something like "Torchlight" http://www.torchlightgame.com/ its a cheaper option ....a bit cartoony based but the core principals are the same...if you enjoy the game play but think its a bit "kiddified" then Diablo is probably for you..its like Torchlight for grown-ups

Thanks for the info guys. By the sound of it I don't think it's my kind of game unfortunately. I'm not really into those games which are about massive enemy hordes and all this item crafting & stuff. So I thought, maybe it just looks like that on the videos and it's all about the story or something

So you just saved me a few bucks  :santa:

Well, it's also about keeping the game interesting for much longer than most non-subscription-based games. With 4 difficulties, you'll finish the 1st one quickly enough, but need to put some effort into not dying your way through the 2nd one, not to mention the 3rd and 4th ones. Unlike most games, the difficulties in Diablo are a natural progressions, and not something you choose when you start playing, and the games gets much harder as you get through the difficulties, forcing you to make more intelligent choices about what skills and items you're going to use and how to use them the best way.

But if you don't like testing out your wits against the hell legions, then this game probably isn't for you :)

Don't get me wrong, though, the story is still a big part of the game, but if story is ALL you're into, then you'll probably get bored. Blizzard may put a lot of effort into their stories, but they also put a lot of effort into the gameplay, and if gameplay for you is just something to connect between the different story elements, then you might lose your patience... Personally, I like it a lot when there's actual gameplay and not just click some stuff to get to the next part in the story/side-story (see: COD, Skyrim, Dragon Age).

It's all about the loot you get and building a character up from with it. You can use, stash, sell and trade the loot you get and continually change your character. Plus all the character abilities you get to point your "skill points" into. It's almost endless how you can grow a character.

D2 is the only game I have ever played all the way through 3 times. A different character class each time.

So I went to my buddy's house last night and played the demo beta. I can say with the utmost confidence that Diablo III meets and exceeds the expectations that people have come to expect from the franchise.

Yeah the closed beta I think was going on. Not sure if it still is. Buddy of mine told me that D3 is indeed excellent and will be worth the wait.

John, they didn't let you in on the beta? :)

Oh well, apparently it's very very short anyway and since it's only the beginning of the game, it's also extremely easy. Still can't wait for the actual game.

It's short but it gives you a great idea of what to expect; a great coop experience. I didn't get into the beta but I am satisfied just having played it. I now know for a fact the game will be good and worth it's price.

I'm just worried about my social life.

Well... it's Blizzard game, what makes it a first day puchase for me. Starcraft 2 was much more expensive than any other game on market, but it was worth it, I've sunk over 200h into it so far, and I can't wait for Heart of the Swarm.
