Hi!
Duration: I don't think we have much control over the loading times so let's hope for the best on that. Frequency: I don't mind waiting for a map/mission to load for the first time, but I sometimes wonder why some games take too long just to get to the menu screen, and others to load the same map/mission. Are these technically avoidable? Minimum bells and whistles: Because I don't want the game to take time loading any longer than the very minimum... Content: ... but I hope it's not too minimalistic Load animations can be entertaining (for a short while especially if it's mission-specific). Some are fun to watch but have no useful military knowledge. Loading screens that are full of text can be informative but boring. Maybe GB has something educational and engaging in store for us? An annotated, narrated video showing proper combat techniques? An explanation of a random in-game weapon? Or maybe something better? A boy can dream. "Standby, standby, GO!": Question: Do you guys prefer the game to skip the loading screen if it's done loading? Or do you guys prefer the "press any key to continue" option? The latter lets me finish reading whatever's on the loading screen, allows me to skip it if loading's done, and allows me to just enjoy the whole "playlist" of loading videos/texts. The former kind of "cuts to the chase" in my opinion. But there must be a better way to endure (hopefully short) loading times... ...So post your ideas, preferences and questions here! |

Frequency: I don't mind waiting for a map/mission to load for the first time, but I sometimes wonder why some games take too long just to get to the menu screen, and others to load the same map/mission. Are these technically avoidable? If anything can be done to avoid re-loading the same mission over and over on restarts (or quick loads) it would be truly awesome. Minimum bells and whistles: Because I don't want the game to take time loading any longer than the very minimum... Additionally, no music/sounds or the ability to turn them off via settings. Quick tips are nice to have, especially if there are many of them and they vary, but please no "press any key to continue", in the long run that adds up to a lot of extra time spent loading... If you really want to finish reading that tip it's possible to just make it so that pressing any key will toggle the "'press any key to continue' at finish." -------------------- You don't mess with the Zohar!

What might be good is a flag set in the game , has user with x profile played this level/stage before
If so do a quicker in ram reload and bypass loading it off hdd and bypass any intro/video scenes |

Is it a good idea to let the computer/platform load the level when we're in the lobby of a game, while waiting for other players to join and/or get ready? When loading is complete then we can "enable" the "Set Ready" button, otherwise that player's status is shown as still "Loading". So that when everyone is "Ready" (or when admin force-starts the game), the game can start straight away.
One of the problems with this idea is when the admin changes the level to be played, everybody has to load that level. What do you think? |
