I thought it was GR meets Star Trek and expected to see Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock materialize from the transporter from the Enterprise.

The GRAW games were a lot of fun, and Ghost Recon has always had a 'future warrior' design element, one way or another.

I agree, assuming you are talking about the PC version. Not exactly run and gun, because if you did, you would be cut down in seconds.

It had a decent level of tactics and realism, so if there is a PC version like this, I would be happy.

But since GRIN closed, I am thinking it will be like the console versions of GRAW. In addition to that, it will be a mere port.

So my expectations are really low. I've played HAWX, and they've made a dumbed down Ace Combat. Reading the new Splinter Cell game, it was really dumbed down. These two titles practically play the game for you.

I have a feeling this will follow Ubisoft's trend of Tom Clancy games being extremely dumbed down to the point where the game plays itself.

If I am wrong, I will be really happy though.

Except that would be fun.

it's too early to judge really, just having fun with how they presented it.

like I said before, at least the RSE is gainfully employed.

I'd suggest grabbing a copy of HAWX - there are rings that tell you where to fly to avoid enemy missiles or to get a lock on the enemy.

The game is playing itself.

I've read in a recent article that in SC: Conviction, there is a similar mechanic. You choose what you want to do, then you character does the actions for the player. The example in the article was that you press a button, and then your character automatically shoots the enemies.

I am sure this GR game will have similar features.

If that is not called dumbed down, then I am not sure what would be.

I'd recommend playing Rainbow 6 Raven Shield and then Vegas. You tell me which is stripped down. You'll notice that all the TC games have been doing this.

The console version of GRAW actually provided a fun and oddly realistic co-op mode.  You had full analogue body control (as well as multiple stances) and a magazine system.  GRAW 2 was a bit more 'arcade', as it were -- in the end, still a fun co-op game.  Overall, I enjoyed them a lot more than the PC game, though I enjoyed both.  The PC game is much more fun with the third-person camera mod, if you ask me.

Honestly, the problems with the games aren't that they have sci-fi elements (because Ghost Recon always had prototypical guns like the OICW and so forth), but rather, it's that it suffers from basic design problems.  For example: the 40mm grenades do not have arming ranges, and detonate upon impact, like rockets.  This makes firing grenades an 'unfair' hazard when playing co-op, because you never know if you've cleared a corner or wall, because of where the projectiles spawn.

Other than the silly design problems, I really could care less that it's military sci-fi.  So long as it's fun to play with my friends, I'll give it a shot.  I have no brand loyalty, when it comes to the hollow 'Clancy' name.  A game is a game.

So true.  GRAW coop on the 360 is so much better than it was on the PC.  The single player was horrible, but coop was absolutely fantastic.  I have to disagree about the third person mod for the PC version though, that was pretty bleh.

Yeah, but using the prototype for a gun that's actually being made is a bit more realistic than those invisibility cloaks from the teaser.  As for the grenades, correct me if I'm wrong but I could have sworn the PC version of GRAW (or at least GRAW 2) had minimum ranges for the launchers.  Unfortunately most games don't have that, though it is a nice addition (even better when you actually have to use sights to launch the grenade accurately as well).

This pretty much sums it up.  I'm to the point where I just ignore the title now and see how the game is.  I was initially in the anti-console GRAW crowd until I gave the game a shot, and I was surprised how good it was.  I didn't think HAWX was too bad, and Splinter Cell.....well, ok Double Agent sucked, but you get the idea.
