OK, I haven't followed much on external HDDs and am looking into picking up an e-SATA external hard drive to plug into my HD DVR and PC. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands and the like? Something in the 500GB t0 1TB range is cool.

since no kids/cats/reptiles are ever mentioned in your place, maybe could add this for consideration:
Vantec NexStar HD dock...this way it's easiest way to replace HD and keep it cool....
again, consider this HD bare/naked so, if no kids/cats/reptiles are not around....
