Pretty interesting.

Amateur stargazers have discovered an intriguing object jutting out from the surface of Mars. The seemingly perfectly rectangular, upright structure, found in NASA images of the Red Planet, bears a striking resemblance to the monoliths planted on Earth and the moon by aliens in the classic sci-fi film "2001: A Space Odyssey." According to Jonathon Hill, a research technician and mission planner at the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University, who processes many of the images taken during NASA's Mars missions, the object in question is no more than a roughly rectangular boulder.

Oh man that is trippy. Guess its similar to that face on the moon thing. Which turned out to be basically rock formation / shadows.

I am going to take an issue with that assumption.  Don't get me wrong, I see where this conclusion comes from... but the movie and the sequel don't substantiate that premise as fact.  The movies do not provide a conclusive answer as to the source of the monolith(s).

Oh I agree, its simply a similarity.

Still, it is interesting that this supposed monolith/object aligns with another on Mars' moon of Phobos.

Btw with how satellites and technology works these days, you would think we would have satellites working as signal relays to have unmanned probes flying around in space. Then again would be too easy to hit something floating around out there, which was not picked up by the cameras totally scrapping a million + dollar piece of hardware.

No, I didn't explain myself.  My problem is with the claim that the movies reveal that the MOVIE monolith was placed by aliens.  You can conclude that from the movies but the article makes it seem as if it is a "fact". The movies never reveal where the monolith is actually from. It is crypic about the source.

Too funny, serious now I was thinking, ideas for films etc, people sit there and ponder and a film comes our way, and then 10-20-30 years later someone takes a photo and bamb life gets very weird very quick.
